We don’t want to start a fight but we think it’s fair to claim that there are some problems with press fit bottom brackets. They creak, don’t last all that long and are installed and removed with tools that cavemen would recognise. TOKEN’s NINJA bottom bracket solves the creaking issues, improves bearing life and adds stiffness to the bottom bracket.

We start with our Fusion technology; it is a combination of plastic and fibre that cover an alloy bottom bracket shell. The composite material allows it to be precisely machined and fit snugly in the frame so it doesn’t move in the frame and sound like grandma’s clicking and creaking arthritic knees. But plastic and fibre don’t do a good job of supporting bearings; poorly supported bearings can wear prematurely.

We house the bearings in an alloy shell and wrap it with plastic and fibre. This fusion of the three materials provides the bearings a solid platform to sit on and extends their lives. A lot of people would be satisfied with this, but we went even further by extending the alloy shell so the right and left sides lock together. This locks the frame, cranks and bottom bracket together and provides unparalleled stiffness.

The NINJA bottom bracket is can be purchased individually or in a package that includes adapters to fit several different frame and crankset combinations.

The NINJA bottom bracket doesn’t just solve the problem of noisy bottom brackets - it actually improves the life of the bottom bracket and makes your bike stiffer. There aren’t many times a replacement part actually improves your bike but put one on your bike and you’ll wonder why you didn’t install a NINJA sooner.

Installation problem

When I turn the tool on the drive-side, the cup on the non-drive side rotates at the same time. Impossible to have a torque of 25 nm. I cleaned the left cup, and applied retaining compound (Park Tool RC-1). On the second try, the left cup continued to turn, but more slowly, and I finally managed to have the torque of 25 nm. I think it would be necessary to have an additional tool, to hold the cup from the left, while I force the cup from the right. I have not yet done a test on the road with the bike, but I admit that I am rather worried.

Bearing

Muy buen producto y resolvió mi problema de la Trek, pero hace falta que hagan los bearings de remplazo para la pieza ya que esa medida no se consigue.

BB90 Trek bottom bracket

I’m impressed how this token bottom bracket solved my issue. I need to try more test on it but as today, it’s behavior has been amazing.

Blissful silence!

I knew my bottom bracket needed replacing - The whole neighborhood knew . . . I decided to swap out the BB90 on my Trek Domane for a Token Ninja turns out it was a great decision. The bearings were definitely gritty, but the ovalization of the molded cups meant that simply swapping out the bearings would only be a short term solution. Enter the Ninja!
Installation was a breeze (get the tool) and the end result was buttery smooth (and virtually silent).
A ~100 miles later, it remains gloriously silent, smooth, and . . . something I wont think about for the next 5000 miles.
